Mission Guatemala
Today's devotional for the mytrbc app was on 2 Corinthians 1. "It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us." 2 Corinthians 1:21 (NLT) As I sit on the 1st of 3 legs of our journey to serve in Guatemala with 20 others from our church (including my husband and sons), it seems like this verse sums up the trip.
During the worship service yesterday at Dan River Church, Pastor Andrew and the congregation prayed over us, commissioning us. What a beautiful thing that even though 21 of us are physically going on the trip, an entire community of believers can be a part through prayer and support.
Decisions, decisions, decisions . . . hours of packing brought along plenty of decisions. Eventually, it seems that it came down to bringing every piece of clothing we might possibly want to wear, not to mention covering every "what if" scenario. (What if God decides to make it snow in July? We would definitely need gloves then.)
2:30 a.m. comes early, folks! But that's what time we had to leave to meet up at the church and ride the vans together to Greensboro for a 6 a.m. flight. The boys woke up raring to go on their first mission trip out of the country. Kaden thinks it's fun to say Guatemala. "I think it's so fun to say since it sounds like guacamole." Makes sense to me.
After a short flight to Atlanta and a 4 hour flight to Guatemala City, we were met at the airport by a band and everything! We were treated to lunch at Pollo Campero (Guatemalen KFC).
A 3 hour bus ride (with plenty of naps along the way) brought us to Hope of Life -- a 3,000 acre compound -- in Zacapa. The compound is beautiful! (We will be taking a full tour of all the ministries within Hope of Life tomorrow . . . so stay tuned!)
Parents, family, and friends of our team, please know that everyone is safe and having a wonderful time. Please pray for us as we minister tomorrow.
