Hi.

I crave strong, hot coffee and perfectly browned toast, but life often interferes. I choose to search for the beauty and humor in the chaos.

Calling Out

Calling Out

Sitting on the hard ground in front of Cinderella's castle, my son Kaden fidgeted. We had just experienced one of the most amazing fireworks displays at DisneyWorld's Magic Kingdom. We were holding down the fort for a great seat at the Once Upon a Time show. None of us had ever seen the show before. "How long is the line for Space Mountain now, Mom?" Kaden was struggling. Having ridden Space Mountain earlier in the day (along with just about every other ride in the park), we camped out in a heap of exhaustion awaiting the show. All we knew was that it was some type of light production telling Disney stories on the face of Cinderella's castle. Kaden still wondered, "Will it be worth missing the chance to ride Space Mountain again?" After much inner (and outer) debate, he decided to throw his lot in with the family and stay for the show, foregoing his love of roller coasters.

At the end of the show, Kaden exclaimed, "Wow! That was amazing! I'm so glad I stayed here to watch it!"

How often do we respond the same way when God calls us out of our comfort zone into a new and strange opportunity? I'm not sure I want to do that, God. What if I don't like it? Plus I'm really good at the way I'm serving You now ... not to mention comfortable, too.

"It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going." Hebrews 11:8 (NLT)

God called Abraham out of a land he was familiar with--the only land he had ever known. God promised to give Abraham a land completely foreign to him, a land he couldn't google information about before he set out. Abraham obeyed. By faith, he set out for the unknown. Why? Because God called him out.

Just as Kaden was unsure of his decision but trusted the decision of the family, so we may be unsure of whatever God is calling us out for but we can trust the One calling.

What is God calling you out for that you may be unsure about? Trust Him as Abraham did. God alone is trustworthy.
